Cafe Red Downtown, the restaurant from some of the same people who created Graffiti Junktion, has severely cut back on its hours. Originally open for lunch and dinner daily with late hours on Friday and Saturday nights, the Church Street eatery now is open for lunch Monday through Friday and for dinner only on Friday. The restaurant closes at 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and remains open until midnight on Friday. Oddly, given the crowds that can be found downtown on a Saturday night, the restaurant is dark all day. A woman who answered the phone said the hours are an adjustment for summer.
Although its creators also developed the burger centric Graffiti Junktion, Cafe Red was not meant to be a burger restaurant. However, as I noted in my review, burgers seem to be its forte. Cafe Red took over the space at 54 W. Church St. that had been occupied by a Five Guys Burgers and Fries franchise.
In Thornton Park, Iza Tapas Bar has vacated its homey space on Washington Street. Several people have noted erratic hours for the small eatery in recent months, so its closing isn’t surprising. The owners say they will be relocating the tapas concept but have no details on where that might be or when it might happen.
