Forget About Bud – With Give Real, This Harvey Wallbanger’s For You

Written By Administrator On December 10, 2008

Here’s a new gift idea when you want to send someone a message that says, “You look like you could use a drink.”Give real

It’s a drink. No, a real drink. From a company intuitively called Give Real. The whole purpose of the company, backed by one of the founders of Facebook, is to allow people to buy each other drinks online.

Now, you’re thinking, “Sure, I’ve got a pretty good high-speed Internet connection, but I don’t think it’s quite that, um, fluid to get a drink online.”

Aren’t you clever! You don’t actually give the drinks online, you just pay for them. The process is a little cumbersome, and unless you have an Internet-savvy smartphone with you in a bar — and your intended recipient does too — it’s not that immediate. Here’s how it works: You log on to the Give Real site and purchase drink credits for friends or besotted family members. Your intended recipients then have to log on and register their credit cards at the site. Then they take that credit card to their favorite bar or cafe and order a drink, paid for by you from your credit card to theirs.

You can actually buy a round for the house without leaving your house.

And in case you’re thinking, “What if I buy someone a drink through this service and they go out and spend the credits on something frivolous, like groceries?” you should know that the transaction is valid only in a bar, restaurant, club or cafe.

The whole business about “I’d like to buy you a drink; give me your credit card number” is a little scary, but since you’re technically giving it to a third party, nothing could go wrong, right?

Get real.
