Frenchy’s

The place that previously was Sweet Traditions Bakery on Park Avenue is now a full-service restaurant called Frenchy’s. It’s proximity to Paris Bistro might cause you to think they’re related (they’re not). The space is pleasant enough, but the food on my visit was modest at best.

I had a Nicoise salad that had all the appropriate ingredients — tuna, tomatoes, olives, green beans and hard-boiled eggs — though missing anchovy, yet was very dry and lifeless.

My companion’s quiche was much better. Baked as a mini pie rather than served as a slice from a larger creation, it was sufficiently eggy and had a nice, flaky crust. It came with an asparagus soup that was a bit thin, both in texture and taste.

I’m not sure how authentic the place wants to be (was that really shepherd’s pie I saw on the menu?), but a refocusing on the efforts in the kitchen might be in order.

Frenchy’s is at 212 Park Ave. N., Winter Park. It is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. There is no website. The phone number is 407-622-2232.
