Foxtail Coffee

I told you recently about Winter Park Distilling Company and their beautiful new digs in a refurbished former auto body shop. One of their neighbors is a cool little shop called Foxtail Coffee.

It has a distinctly Northwestern United States vibe, with lots of brick and wood and hanging block-and-tackle pulleys, a nod, I suppose, to the previous tenant.

Foxtail is serious about its coffee, right down to its onsite roasting room, and promises to source from only fair-trade coffee dealers.

Besides all your basic brews and the coffee iterations you’d find at most other coffee shops — your lattes, your cappuccinos, your espressos and such — you’ll find cold brew coffees on tap. Even nicer, one of the young staffers behind the counter will likely offer you a taste. Cold brews aren’t really my thing, but I like that they’re offered here.

There is rather a dearth of seating inside — the roasting room takes up a lot of prime real estate. I arranged to meet a colleague there to discuss some business and we had a difficult time finding a place to chat. We ended up at a hug-the-wall shelf in the passageway across from the roasting room.

But maybe the owners don’t want the sort of all-day campers that you’ll find at a Panera. I can understand that. On a nice day, grab your coffee and go out the the lawn area next to the building and sit on one of the benches, or just sprawl on the grass.

Foxtail Coffee is at 1282 Orange Ave., Winter Park. It’s open daily. The website is only a landing page with little info. The phone number is 407-951-7391.
