As your November food magazines begin to arrive -- including the last issue of Gourment -- you'll notice a bevy of November's favorite pin-up models -- the roast turkey. As this article from the New York Times notes, gorgeous golden turkeys are the go-to cover art for most periodicals this time of year.
But seeing the perfect birds with the plump breasts and high-toned legs reminds me about the complaints with cover models the other months of the year. Whether it's the women on Vogue or the ab-flexed guys on Men's Health, the average reader is made to feel inferior. Looking at these turkeys (we're back talking about the Thanksgivine bird again), the average cook could get a complex trying to recreate the food-stylist-enhanced dinners on the food mag covers. But, hey, we can dream, can't we?
And all of this is to say that it's time to put together our list of restaurant that will be serving Thanksgiving dinner this year. By some odd coincidence Thanksgiving falls on a Thursday again this year, November 26. So this is a call out to all you restaurateurs and restaurant publicists to send me your holiday details. Please include the following info:
- Exact physical address of the restaurant (please give more than the name of the hotel or the cross streets, although that information can be very helpful, too).
- Hours of operation for Thanksgiving Day.
- Type of service, whether it's a holiday buffet or a la carte menu.
- Cost for adults and children (please include age range for children); if not a prix fixe, give a price range for entrees.
- Phone number to call for reservations; please indicate if reservations are available through OpenTable.
- You're welcome to attach a menu.
