New Decor Isn’t the Only Thing to be Unwrapped at Flying Fish Opening Wednesday

Turns out that the word Cafe isn’t the only thing being dropped when Flying Fish reopens at Disney’s Boardwalk on Aug. 3.

The potato-wrapped snapper that has been a signature dish since day one is not part of new chef Tim Majoras’s menu. That’s sure to cause a stir among diehard fans.

But the restaurant has undergone a full refurbishment. Why shouldn’t the menu get a fresh look, too?

Flying Fish, formerly known as Flying Fish Cafe, has been closed since the beginning of February for a complete redo of the decor, which originally was an homage to Coney Island rides, including one called the Flying Fish. Although no reopening date was projected, most involved with the project privately said it would be much later in the summer. So apparently things went well enough that the Aug. 3 date could be announced.

The new bar and lounge next door, called Abracadabar, has already opened. It is in the former candy shop that sat between the Fish and the Trattoria. Abracadabar has a magic theme to justify its tonque-twisting name. An adult lounge — not to mention a waiting area — was what was missing from the Fish originally.

A couple of doors down, Brooklyn-based Ample Hills Creamery has taken over some space at the ESPN Club. Haven’t tried it yet, but I hear the ice cream is terrific.

Below is the menu that will be offered when Flying Fish opens its doors on Wednesday:
