I came across a Cuban restaurant on the east side of town called Old Cuban Cafe, but it was new to me.
In a small strip of shops on Goldenrod Road, just north of Colonial Drive, Old Cuban is an acceptable place to grab a Cuban (sandwich, that is, preferably new) or a hot plate of traditional Havana eats
I had the lechon asado a la criolla, the roast pork shoulder served with white rice, black beans and yuca. I appreciated that the sauce for both the pork and the yuca was not too garlicky.
Old Cuban Cafe has an extensive menu that includes numerous seafood dishes (fried whole snapper and grouper chunks in Creole sauce among them). There is also a list of sandwiches, ranging from the expected Cuban and media noche to the mundane club sandwich.
Service was friendly and prompt. Except for a large mural adorning one full wall (a scene of old Cuba, of course), the decor is rather modest.
Old Cuban Cafe is at 1672 N. Goldenrod Road, Orlando. It is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. There is no website. The phone number is 407-281-7707.
