Two New Restaurants Opening Sunday

Written By Scott Joseph On June 13, 2014

Southern Moon logoWith all the closings we’ve had lately, it’s nice to tell you about a couple of new restaurants. Both Southern Moon and Blackfin will open their doors to the public on Sunday, June 15, although I hear that the latter is unofficially open now.

Southern Moon is the barbecue operation from the folks who drive the very good Fork in the Road food truck. Chef/owner Bryce Balluff has put together a menu with the usual barbecue favorites plus some creative offerings, such as a BLFGT, or bacon, lettuce, fried green tomato, sandwich.

Southern Moon takes over the space of the troubled Holy Smoke BBQ at 3000 Curry Ford Road in Orlando. It will open Sunday at 11 a.m.

Blackfin took over the space from the even troubled-er SoNapa in Maitland. Longtimers will recallBlackfin logo the popular Blackfin that drew crowds in Winter Park Village for many years. (That’s where Mitchell’s Fish House is now.) Original owner Eric Kovar has redone the space at 640 S. Orlando Ave. and is hoping all the old regulars will be stopping by. Blackfin opens for dinner each day at 4 p.m.
