Next to take over the space at the corner of Park Avenue and Canton Avenue in Winter Park is Soho Hospitality Group out of Tampa. This, of course, is the space that has seen a rash of restaurants come and go. Most recently, Matilda’s, which grew out of a short-lived eatery called Galopin, shut the front door. And despite what you may have heard, that door is not a revolving one.
Soho currently has three restaurants in the Tampa Bay area: Boca Kitchen Bar & Market; Copperfish Seafood Grill & Oyster Bar; and Ciro’s Speakeasy and Supper Club. My sources say that the downstairs part of the Winter Park restaurant will be fashioned after Copperfish. The upstairs space will be more like Ciro’s. The little shack in the Hidden Garden behind the Park Avenue businesses will become the little pub that it was always meant to be.
Whether or not the Winter Park restaurants will have the same names as the Tampa counterparts is yet to be known. I have a call into Soho’s president, Kevin Enderle, and I’ll report back when I get more information.
As for timing, the pub should open soon (some were surprised it wasn’t open for last weekend’s art festival. The dining room and speakeasy will likely take a couple of months more.
More to come.
But here’s a fun parlor game in the meantime. (Does anyone still have a parlor?) Try to name as many of the restaurants that have occupied this space as you can, beginning with Matilda’s and moving backward. Leave your answers in the comments below. Ready, set, go.
