Txokos Basque Kitchen Opens Saturday

Written By Scott Joseph On March 7, 2014

Txokos logo.001Update: Txokos was unable to finalize inspections in time for a Saturday opening. Tuesday, March 11, is now the earliest opening opportunity. The restaurant will not be conducting training meals this weekend as it has in recent days.

Txokos Basque Kitchen, the long-awaited project from Beard Award nominated chef Henry Salgado, will finally open to the public Saturday. The restaurant, owned by Salgado with his wife, Michele, will be the only full-service restaurant at East End Market, the popular new food-centric business on Corrine Drive in Orlando.

Txokos (pronounced CHO-kohs) features cuisine of the Basque region in northern Spain. The name refers to an underground gastronomic society that meets to eat, drink and socialize.

The Salgados also own the acclaimed Spanish River Grill in New Smyrna Beach. It is Salgado’s work there that has earned him multiple nominations for the prestigious Beard Awards as Best Chef in the South Region. He was recently named as a semifinalist for the 2014 awards. The finalists will be announced on March 18.

Txokos Basque Kitchen is at 3201 E. Corrine Drive, Orlando. The restaurant will open initially for dinner only. Reservations may be made at 321-972-8852.
