Urban Flats Closes Downtown

Written By Scott Joseph On January 27, 2014

It appears that Urban Flats has closed its downtown location on Church Street. The restaurant’s phone is still in operation but is answered by a recording asking callers to leave a message. A staff member at the Urban Flats in Winter Garden confirmed that the flatbread restaurant had closed. The Winter Garden Urban Flats is not affiliated with the one downtown and is still open. The restaurant had moved to the Church Street location only recently from the corner space in the Plaza. That space is now occupied by Kasa.

Urban Flats started in Winter Park at the corner of Fairbanks and New York Avenues in 2005 (in the space where Ethos currently resides). It was an innovator in the then-new concept of flatbreads, and it grew to several locations, both company owned and franchised. The company has had difficulty in recent years, including a lawsuit brought by Manny Garcia, who had invested in the concept.

The phone at an Urban Flats in Jacksonville Beach goes to an automated answering machine, as well.
