Timpano Closed

Written By Scott Joseph On January 2, 2013

Update: Darden will tear down the current structure and put up an Eddie V’s in its place, according to company spokesman Hunter Robinson. Eddie V’s, a recent acquisition of Darden’s, specializes in prime beef and seafood. No dates have been announced.

Confirmed: Timpano’s will close (officially) following a private event today (Wednesday). The property has been purchased by Darden Restaurants. Darden appoached Tavistock about the property, according to a press release from the latter. No word yet from Darden about which concept will be placed there, though I’m guessing it will be one of the newer acquisitions, Eddie V’s or Yard house. More soon.

Talk about timing!

Just last week I told you about my recent visits to Timpano Italian Chophouse & Martini Bar on Sand Lake Road and how I thought it was doing very well with its food. I also said I enjoyed the atmosphere, service and, especially, the entertainment.

Now, it appears, the restaurant, which was one of the earliest to occupy that stretch of road now known as Restaurant Row, is closed. Originally owned by Orlando-based e-Brands, Timpano was purchased last year by the restaurant arm of Tavistock. Tavistock also purchased Samba Room, next door to Timpano, but sold it off to Rocco’s Tacos & Tequila Bar.

I haven’t been able to reach anyone who can give an official “yes” or “no,” but the restaurant was not open on New Year’s Day, as other location were, and no one is answering the phone there today, when it should be open for lunch. (The phone is not disconnected, however a recording tells callers the phone’s mailbox is full and cannot accept new messages.)

A random call to Tavistock’s local offices brought a surprise from someone who answered. The woman, who is not in the restaurant division (that’s based in San Francisco), said her office had just had their Christmas party at Timpano. A manager at Rocco’s said he had heard the restaurant was closed but didn’t know for sure.

I have other calls out to Tavistock officials and will update when I know more.
